The previous blog prompted me to write to the Editor of the Press and Journal and today they have printed my letter in the newspaper. The last time I wrote to the P&J, and I had the letter printed on that occasion too, was over 12 years ago. At that time I was a very new Conservative Party agent for Moray, still extremely eager and keen, when I sent a missive about the “Tartan Tax”. My hazy recollection is that is what we termed the proposed tax raising powers for any Scottish Parliament a new Labour Government established.
I say hazy, as I had no recollection of this until my father mentioned it. I had told him the Press and Journal was publishing my letter today. His response was, “I must go out and by a paper today, I still have your cutting about the “Tartan Tax”. How touching that he still kept hold of that small piece of paper I must have sent him with enormous pride all those years back. Now that I am older my parents frequently amaze me with recollections or reactions that in my intemperate youth passed me by.
